Bo Lin

Assistant Professor at NUS

Catch me at

Hi there, I'm Bo Lin. I am an Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore (starting June 2026). I'm interested in AI for sustainable cities. I develop predictive and prescriptive analytics tools to assess, design, and help people interact with urban systems in a sustainable way. Motivated by practical challenges encountered in real-world deployment, the other line of my research focuses on integrating machine learning and optimization, aiming to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and applicability of data-driven decision-making tools.

My research has been implemented in several real-world applications, including Toronto's 2025–2030 bike infrastructure planning. My empirical insights have been widely referenced in policy discussions and mainstream media, including at Toronto City Council, the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, CBC News, and The Toronto Star. My research has also been recognized by several awards, including INFORMS George B. Dantzig Dissertation Award, INFORMS Innovative Applications in Analytics Award, INFORMS Daniel H. Wagner Prize (Finalist), INFORMS TSL Best Student Paper Award, CORS Practice Prize, among many others.

Before joining NUS, I spent a year as a postdoc fellow at the University of Toronto and MIT. I hold a PhD degree in Operations Research from the University of Toronto, a master's degree from the University of Waterloo and a bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University. In June-Sep 2023, I interned at Uber as an Applied Scientist, researching online marketplaces and advertising platforms. Here is a Uber Engineering Blog that introduces what I did there.

I'm actively recruiting PhD students. Please feel free to share your CV, transcripts, and a short description of your research interests via email. Prospective postdocs and undergraduate RAs are also welcome to reach out.

Postdoc position (AI for cities) at Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology with Alexandre Jacquillat (MIT), Hai Wang (SMU), and me. Feel free to apply HERE!
